The review on the gel colours are totally those of All But The Cake, based solely on observations when mixing the gel colours with 15g of Fondant (Satin Ice brand).  Some colours required a larger amount, and more mixing, while could have used less colour and blended extremely well. Each colour has its own comment, and we used a standard amount of colour was applied to same amount of fondant 15g, also using a toothpick as an applicator. This method stopped the fondant ball from being  saturated with too much colour. Except of course I broke the this rule when it came to white.  I was sure this was under control but I made a mess…. I just kept adding more to see if the colour would change, but this only made fondant sticky. More info on white, on the 30g White Gel page.

Java Brown was a more difficult colour to use, maybe it doesn’t flow as well, but was harder to work into the fondant. After using the black and red I thought this would be a simple application, but it wasn’t. I could see to achieve a really dark brown I would probably add a touch of red, so it would be more chocolate than a poo colour. I do think I would use this colour to add with other colours, like a touch of brown into the rustic green to make avocado colour, or add to red and blue for a burgundy colour. Its would be experiment with small amounts to see what colours you can develop.  I did have gloves on to see how it would mix, and it is not idea, as the warmth of you hands helps the gel to mix into the fondant. Just a word of warning, you may think the red will stain your hands, and decide to wear plastic gloves. ( Repeated from above) Do not be tempted and this will stop the colour from mixing and you will end up with blotches of colour. (Look at the brown photo I used gloves) This gel easily washes off after using, but may be visible under your fingernails, in the case use lemon juice and a nail cleaner to remove the colour.

Results may differ on other mediums such as buttercream and sugar. Not Recommended for chocolate as water is an ingredient.

These gels come in a tube rather that a bottle, great is warm weather as every drop can be squeezed out, in cool weather warm the tube in your hands, so th flow of the gel is more fluid. If  you think the tube is empty cut of the flat end to use the remaining colour. Waste not want not.
